Ben Wilson scored 11th and then ninth-place finishes in his two Supersport races on his first visit to the North West 200 in Northern Ireland.

It was the Kirton rider’s first taste of road racing.

“I am very pleased with 11th and ninth on my first time at the NW200,” said Wilson.

“It’s not a bad set of results considering I started from the second wave, but of course this year was always going to be a learning year and I hope to come back next time to improve my position.”

Tuesday’s practice and qualifying was hampered by wet weather, but Thursday’s final session was run in fine, dry conditions which gave Wilson a chance to record some fast laps.

He built up speed as he familiarised himself with the 8.97-mile public road course and secured a fine 16th place at the end of the session.

As is customary, the riders are split into groups of 15 for the race start, with Wilson beginning his campaign from the second wave of riders.

He got away to a good start and made good progress on the timing screens to complete the six-lap affair in 11th.

On Saturday the weather was forecast to be bright and sunny but that was not the case and the racing was interrupted by frequent heavy rain showers, causing Wilson’s second race start to be two-and-a-half hours later than planned.

When the riders eventually took their grid positions, Wilson was once again placed in the second wave of riders and was in second place within the group at the roundabout.

He completed the lap in 12th position and went on to move into 11th and then 10th.

Going into the final lap, Wilson was running well and crossed the finish line in a strong ninth position.

He posted his fastest lap of the six lap race on the third lap recording a time of 4 mins 44.2 secs.

Wilson will now return to racing in the British Supersport Championship at Snetterton over the weekend of June 19-21.
