Boston Cricket Club’s Second XI captain Luke Gilding struck a half century -but he couldn’t prevent his side being beaten by Market Deeping on Saturday.

The Mayflower men finished their 45 South Lincs and Border League Division One overs on 172-8, but the hosts’ 175-5 secured a five-wicket victory.

Gilding’s 53 runs were supported by fellow batsmen Ben Troops (21 not out), Michael Troops (18), Chris Morley (15), Tim Bell (13) and Paul Tetther (10).

With the ball, Bell and Paul Deans took two wickets each with Ben Troops adding a further one.

Boston Thirds earned an 11-run victory at Pinchbeck in the SLBL Division Three.

Sam Holland (56) and Sean Barnett (40) batted well as Boston posted a score of 184-9.

Further notable scores came from Daniel Lumley (19 not out), Shaun Moore (15) and Karl Pick (14).

Pinchbeck could only reach 175-9 from their 45 overs.

Moore led the bowlers with four wickets and a run out, while Steve Appleyard (two) and Tom Appleyard (one) also took wickets.

Sam Holland also recorded a run out.

Tom Poole’s unbeaten 76 runs wasn’t enough to bring Boston’s Sunday First XI victory.

Boston’s total of 171-6 was not enough to match Sleaford’s 25-5 in the Lincoln and District League Premier Division.

Luke Gilding claimed four wickets, including the scalps of Tim McIntosh (95) while Scott Elleray added a run out.

Ben Vella (23), Ben Troops (14) and Sam Holland (11) added to the score.
