The senior Boston teams have been in action again at the weekend after a busy time of matches for this age group the previous Saturday and Sunday.

On this occasion both the Ladies fourth team and the Men’s third and fourth teams had matches scheduled for the Saturday – the worst option of the two as whilst Sunday was a beautiful day with accompanying sunshine it was incredibly blustery and damp on the Saturday.

Nevertheless all three teams braved it and completed their matches in the main before the arrival of Saturday evening rain.

In Division three of the Dunlop Lindum Lincolnshire Seniors League 2020-2021 Boston Ladies 4 played at home against Horncastle 2 in a previously postponed fixture. It was an interesting match for the Ladies in no small account because of the rotten conditions. After the first round the team of Hilda Hastings, Jenny Murphy, Kanya Clark and Sue Dring had only one set to show for it. However the second round was fruitful and the team pulled it around to give themselves a further three sets and force the draw.

Wind often plays a part in levelling the conditions off for all players and it was another close result for the Division Two match in the Dunlop Lindum Lincolnshire Seniors League between Boston Men’s thirds and fourths. The third team was Chris Cook, John Gibson, David Makins and Andy Clamp whilst playing for the fourth team were Richard Cozens, Robert Bonser, Geoff Presland and Richard Tupper. It was a very close match with each pair halving every rubber. The thirds stood it out to valiantly take a tie-break vital set and the result was a hard fought draw for the teams after a competitive match.

Finally on Saturday the Boston Tennis Club boy’s 14 and under team had a match in the LTA Lincolnshire National League 2020-21. This particular event has been played as a knock out draw and the team – Ben Rudkin and Paul Young reached the semi final stage. This was played on Saturday against Grantham. Both boys won their singles and narrowly lost their doubles 3-4 3-4. The team had done sufficient to book themselves a final spot to be played against Lincoln Academy in a fortnight’s time.
