They say that revenge is a dish best served cold and Sleaford Indoor Bowls Club ladies badly needed to win their Lincolnshire Trudy Bates League match against Stamford to reverse the defeat that had been inflicted on them early in the season.

And they produced a hard earned 103-99 victory to take a valuable 12 points from the 16 on offer.

Leading the way was Mary Thomas with Barbara Coxon, Janet Fergus and Margaret McKie, winning 24-11 with steady bowling throughout the game. Gill Dwyer’s set of Patricia Rands, Margaret Holder and Linda Wills went 13-3 up after the first five ends and stayed in control to finish 28-16 winners.

Rhoda Wing and Diane Watson, Gloria Davies and Sheila Methven were 5-15 down after nine ends and their opponents then scored 10 shots over the last five ends to secure a 15-27 victory.

Gillian Annison’s set of Carole Richardson, Heather Duffy and Helen Quirke managed to win just five ends in their match and lost heavily 14-32.

The team’s last game of the season is against league leaders Boston with an opportunity to finish in a blaze of glory.
