Boston and District Athletic Club’s Jose Ferreira claimed fifth spot in the final round of the Lincolnshire Cross-country League.

He was one of 16 runners representing the club.

Competing at the PGL Centre at Caythorpe on Sunday, three senior men competed over a testing 9,515m course.

Behind Ferreira came Andy Waltham in 23rd and Paul Porter in 36th.

Ferreira was awarded the trophy for coming second overall in the individual standings, while Waltham was ninth in the veteran men’s category.

Emma Penniston was seventh in the junior/senior/veteran women’s race over 6,315m, finishing as runner-up in the under 20 women’s section.

At under 17 men’s level, Robert Porter completed the 6,315m course in ninth place, and was fifth overall.

Salaiman Dani made his debut in the under 15 boys’ contest over 4,845m, entering the finish funnell in 12th.

Thomas Hall claimed fourth overall.

Under 13 Blake Garwellwas third after 3,375m, ahead of Jack Rushby (12th), Matthew Connelly (14th) and James Robinson (19th).

Tom Evans was in a rewarding ninth position and Matthew Connelly improved to 10th place in the overall standings.

William Wright was prominent in the under 11s contest over 1,645m, racing over the finish line in second place.

This gave William the same end-of-series-points as the race winner on Sunday, only just losing out on the 2012 under 11 boys’ title by virtue of the count back system.

Alec Sykes was seventh and Hallam Bedford 11th at Caythorpe, with Jenson Barkworth 17th and Oliver Staniland 19th.

William, Alec and Oliver had all competed in at least three races during the season, qualifying for an under 11 medal.

Thirty athletes dressed in festive outfits completed the Boston and District AC 5K Fun Run.

The event was organised in conjunction with Brothertoft Christmas Fair on Sunday.

First to complete the road run - which was held in bright, dry winter conditions - were BADAC athletes Blake Garwell and Jose Ferriera.
