BADAC athletes compete at national cross-country championships

TEN Boston and District Athletic Club representatives travelled to London on Saturday to compete in the 125th English National Cross-country Championships at Parliament Hill Fields.

In the first event on the programme, Emma Penniston completed the under 20 women’s 6k race over a gruelling roller coaster of a course in 106th in a time of 31 min. 19 secs.

In the under 13 girls’ championship, Hermione Wright experienced her first nationals, giving a very good account of herself.

At the end of the 3k challenge, Hermione achieved 282 in 15 mins 04 secs.

Aidan McClure ran in the junior men’s race over a challenging 10, finishing 181st in 42 mins 50 secs.

Three under 13 boys made their debut at national level.

Blake Garwell spearheaded the Gold Tops trio running with great determination over the 3k distance to come home in 297th place in 13 mins 45 secs.

Tom Evans was 349th (14 mins 53 secs) and Kieran Pickwell was 367th (16 mins 37 secs).

Four Boston and District AC representatives lined up on the start line for the 12k senior men’s race, together with 1,700 other runners.

First man home for the Gold Tops was Dennis Rainbow in 948th (50 mins 50 secs), ahead of David Johnson’s 1,178th finish (53 mins 48 secs).

Thomas Johnson 1,385th (57 mins 12 secs), Ian Scott was 1,405th (57 mins 32 secs).
