BADAC athletes take second spot at North of England Track and Field event

Boston and District Athletic Club representatives began the 2015 North of England Track and Field League campaign with a fine second place in the first match in the series at Grimsby on Saturday.

The eight-strong team overcame poor weather conditions at the King George V Stadium to emerge in runners-up position.

Frances Nuttell won the 100m hurdles (18.2secs), cleared 4.88m in the long jump and achieved a clearance of 9.56m in the triple jump.

Isabel Whitehead won the 400m hurdles (72.25 secs), added second-place points in the 800m (2 mins 39.9 secs) and finished the 1,500m in a time of 6 mins 23.4secs.

Emma Penson made a good contribution in hammer (17.99m) and added value in both 200m and 3,000m.

In her first experience of track athletics, Fallon Lafferty impressed by clocking 5 mins 35.6 secsin the 1,500m and 2 mins 41.7 secs over 800m.

In her first field events, Fallon achieved 6.11m in the shot and cleared 3.52m in the long jump.

Rebecca Grice contributed to the Gold Tops’ points total in shot (5.01m), hammer (15.16m), 100m (18.3 secs) and javelin.

The five ladies worked well together and in different combinations to finish fifth in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

In the men’s section, Chris Cope contributed in six different events, opening with a convincing victory in the 400m hurdles he followed on with win in the 3,000m steeplechase, a second in both the 110m hurdles and 1,500m.

He also crossed the line fourth at the end of the 800m and then added points in the triple jump.

James Rourk won the B 400m, recovering well from a fall in the wet at the second hurdle, and went on to finish third in triple jump (10.01m).

James added a third in discus (24.57m) and achieved a second in the 110m hurdles.

Owen Msimango contributed points in the 1,500m and the 5,00m.
