BOSTON’S Charles Bateman has finished his first season in the British GT Championship in third place.
At Silverstone this weekend, Bateman at one stage led the standings, but by the end he had to settle for third overall.
The Scuderia Vittoria Ferrari 458 qualified in 10th on the grid.
Bateman drove the opening stint and made stunning progress with classic and daring manoeuvres to reach third by the end of the first lap.
Before the end of the second lap, Bateman was sitting comfortably in second place.
During this period Charles also achieved the fastest lap of the race.
Heading towards half-way and the start of the driver changes, Bateman and his teammate ???? found themselves as the men to beat, the title in their grasp.
But after the driver change and a long safety car period, the Ferrari slipped to seventh before a drive-through penalty for exceeding the track limits ended any title hopes.
“It was fantastic to have made up so many places on the first lap and to get fastest lap of the race,” said a positive Bateman.
Channel 4 coverage of this race will be on October 22 at 7am.
