Bateman toasts his first-place Ferrari finish

MAKING their debut in the Ferrari 458 with team Scuderia Vittoria at the Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire, Charles Bateman and teammate Michael Lyons claimed a win and sixth place in the opening rounds of the British GT Championships.

After qualifying in pole position for race one, they lead until they pitted, eventually finishing sixth.

For race two, the duo had it all to do qualifyied third but had to start at the back after a ride height issue.Within the first lap Boston’s Charles had made it into 15th and by lap 12 was sitting in ninth.

The team decided to pit earlier than planned to take full advantage of the second safety car period and emerged third out of the pits - eventually taking the chequered flag 21.633 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Charles said: “This has been a dream start. To come away from the weekend with a sixth and first is an amazing result.”

Charles and Michael are currently lying equal second in the championship.
