ROSS Batey marked the new boxing season with a hard-fought victory over Lincoln’s Nathan Decastro on Saturday.
The Boston ABC fighter (pictured), with coach Kevin Smith and trainer Dave Goddard in his corner, fought in Worksop.
Locking horns with Decastro, the pair put on the fight of the night.
Not too much attention was paid to the art of defence, making the bout a crowd-pleaser throughout.
With 100 fights to his name, Decastro attempted to use his experience to tire Batey out, but the Boston fighter remained aggresive.
The final round belonged to the Boston senior as Decastro took a standing count following a barrage of shots to the head and body.
Although his retaliations were few and far between, the lad from Lincoln stayed defiant until the end, although Batey was given the verdict.
