ROSS Batey suffered a points defeat to James Seddon in the quarter-finals of thsi year’s All-England ABA competition – but the Boston ABC boxer went down fighting.
Batey knew he needed to produce a big performance if he wanted to get past the middleweight in Liverpool on Sunday.
He did just that, but it wasn’t enough to progress any further.
In a superb contest, the experience of the Liverpudlian proved the difference.
Neither boxer held any kind of upprer hand in the opening rounds as both were prepared to trade blow for blow.
Batey’s confidence grew with his performance, encouraging him to go after Seddon in the final round.
And for a while, Seddon was prepared for the challenge.
But slowly he forced Batey back onto the ropes and smothered all Batey’s intentions, to claim the decision.
Both boxers deserved the plaudits they received from the crowd as they left the ring.
