With the new Boston and District Table Tennis season underway this week, Michael Maltby considers the likely fortunes of the various teams in Division One...

Quite a lot of changes have occurred in the top division, with some teams strengthening their squads and others splitting up. Graves Park D and Penmaen B were relegated at the end of last season, but the members of Penmaen B also decided to go their own ways, Scott Sykes joining Lodgers E along with Trev Blackbourn (ex Lodgers B). Meanwhile, David Kime left the E for life in Division Two, and Steve Harker has retired.

Lodgers B also disbanded, with Tim Day joining last season’s runner’s up Lodgers G, while champions Penmaen A are unchanged.

Graves Park A have added Frazer Stone, who previously played in Sheffield, and stablemates Graves Park C signed on Graham Walters from the relegated D team.

Stickney, Wrangle A and newly-promoted Graves Park B are unchanged from last season, but promoted Sibsey B have lost Neil Snaith, who has transferred to Sibsey A.

It’s very difficult to see the top two changing.

With only nine teams in the division, the fight to avoid relegation may hinge on absences, injuries and loss of form, but I suspect that the two promoted teams will find it very difficult.
