Boston Golf Club regain the Nelson Trophy

Boston Golf Club have regained the Nelson Cup.

The 53rd installment of the competition took place at Boston last Sunday.

The trophy is competed for by members of Boston, Seacroft and North Shore clubs.

Boston claimed the cup back from North Shore with 441 points.

North Shore were second with 469 and Seacroft third on 506 points.

The President’s Putter competition was won by Chris Stainton. He scored 69 points in the medal competition with a maximum 18 handicap.

Results: 1 C. Stainton 69, 2 T. Reay 70, 3 J. Kadzionis 71, 4 E. Markham 71, 5 A. Dawson 73, 6 S. Hodgson 74.

The ladies’ section played their Ping 4BBB qualifier, a pairs betterball 18-hole stableford.

The winning pair with 40 points were Ruth Simpson and Yvonne Shaffarczyk.

In second were Pam Hyde and Jean Markham with 39 points.

The winners will be put forward for the Ping 4BBB final in September at Gainsborough.

Boston Golf Club also hosted their Mixed Open, with 12 teams playing - some travelling as from far afield as Shipley, Weston Turvill, Toft and Norwood Park.

Returning a score of 88 stableford points, first place went to Ruth Simpson, Ian Taylor, Yvonne and Martin Shaffarczyk (Boston).

In second on countback were Michael and Marilyn Marriott with Drew and Clare Farrell (Toft) on 76.

Third went to Jean and Ed Markham (Boston) with Kevin and Kathleen McGuinness (Shipley), also on 76.

Just Missing out on the prizes, but also with 76 were Pam and Malcolm Hyde with David and Julie West (Boston).

The ladies’ nearest the pin prize went to Jean Markham on the fifth hole while the men’s, on the 14th, was won by Brian Steward.

The twos were shared amongst six players, Michael Marriott, Yvonne Shaffarczyk, Pam Hyde, Mick Pond, Les Martin and Brian Steward.
