Boston men suffer defeat in Aegon tennis competition

BOSTON Tennis Club’s teams have been involved in Aegon Team Tennis matches at the weekend.

On the senior front, both the Mens’ Seconds and Thirds suffered losses in the first division of the county league.

Boston Men’s Seconds had an away fixture at David Lloyd, Burton Waters.

The team of Lewis Fisher, Steve Green, Carl Robinson and Dan Scott were still in with a chance after the singles round following an excellent win for Boston Tennis Club coach Steve Green over Burton Water coach Jason Revill.

However, wins in the doubles proved too tall an order for the young team and the one rubber was the only treasure of the day.

Again, it was too good an opposition for the Boston Tennis Club’s C team up against Grimsby Tennis Centre’s firsts, also in the county first division.

Without gaining a rubber, the team of Andy Clamp, Jack Morrow, Dan Bambridge and James Newton missed out.

In the junior Aegon Team Tennis the Boston Tennis Club under nine mixed teams took to the courts.

It was a loss for Boston B team against Grantham, but good efforts were made by the team of Alastair Boothby, Daniel Colam, Millie Alexander and Jordan Stone.

It was a win over Deeping for the Boston A team of Matthew Gedney, Thomas Hull, Paris Royal and Bradley Worth.

All of the four Boston Tennis Club mixed teams have made a start on this summer’s matches in the Boston and District Mixed Tennis League. Boston Mixed One played Heckington, while Boston Mixed Two and Three had each other to play.

Boston Mixed Four met Billinghay.

Boston One – Catherine Ellis, Terry Mastin, Hilary Calvert, Richard Longworth, Ashleigh Frankish and Ryan Frankish - won 8-1 result over Heckington.

Boston Two beat the Boston Three team, the current champions, 6-3.

In the team for Boston Two were Henry Beesley, Sue Beesley, Mike Burnett, Tori Needham, Jim Mackin and Jenny Grant.

Boston Three’s side was Ray Frankish, Helen Cook, Mike Sweeney, Emily Hawkesworth, Chris Cook and Rachel Gedney.

For Boston Mixed Four, captained by Terry Wilkinson and including Anthony Hulley, Jayne Walsh, Helen Duckett, Bill Burnett and Sophie Walsh, it was a 6-3 win against Billinghay in a close-fought match.

Club events coming up include Boston Tennis Club’s tournament, sponsored by Chattertons.

The Chattertons Club Closed begins on June 4, with the Mixed Doubles Event.
