Seven players from the Boston and District Table Tennis League set off in the rain to King’s Lynn to complete in the Fenland Cup, a bi-annual trophy which Boston won two years ago.

The competition consisted of teams representing four local leagues, King’s Lynn, Wisbech, Spalding and Boston.

Each League was required to play two teams, an A and B, against the opposition.

In round one, Boston A’s first game was against Spalding A, Jimmy Brewster and Hon Choy winning their three games, and reserve Alan Reetham showing up well, taking games off all three opponents in a 6-3 win.

Meanwhile, Boston B (Derek Wood, Peter Munch and Dave Coulson) comfortably beat Spalding B 8-1.

Round two saw Brian Hill replacing Alan in Boston A, the team beating Wisbech A without too much trouble, 9-0.

Boston B, however, had more problems with Wisbech B, eventually winning 6-3.

The final round saw a titanic struggle between Boston A and King’s Lynn A, with Boston emerging 5-4 winners.

However the B team were no match for King’s Lynn B, and only had an excellent Dave Coulson win to show in a 1-8 loss.

Overall the final placings saw King’s Lynn in first with Boston the runners-up.

Wisbech were third and Spalding fourth.

Individual records: Jimmy Brewster eight wins/nine played, Brian Hill 5/6, Hon Choy 7/9, Alan Reetham 0/3,Derek Wood 6/9, Peter Munch 5/9, Dave Coulson 4/9
