Thomas Pogson’s hopes of lifting the ABA Heavvyweight title were crushed in the most bizarre of fashions this weekend.
Pogson was travelling to Liverpoool to face St Albans’ Anis Paj in the pre-quarters.
However, his car broke down on the outskirts of the city due to an electrical fault.
The19-year-old made it to the weigh-in 10 minutes late, and the decision was given to the opposition club as to whether they wanted the fight to continue or not, and they declined.
“I can understand their lad thinking he’s not fighting and having to get up for the fight again, he’d be like a yo-yo and that’s not fair,” Pogson admitted.
“But if it was me I’d say ‘let’s take the fight’.
“I’m gutted but want to thank my coach Steve (Davison) and sponsor Allan (Ross) for their support - I’ll make sure I do it next year.”
However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Pogson as he has been told that he is in line for a shot at the East Midlands Elite Challenge Belt.
