CHRIS Mepham and Jim Mackin were this year’s winners of the St Nicholas Day tournament held at Boston Tennis Club.
This popular event held on Wednesday of last week continues to provide some good competitive tennis.
Thirty-two players took part in the event which was played on the indoor courts. The tournament is a doubles competition but partnerships are determined by a draw made at the beginning of every round.
Also decided by luck is which pairs play each other at every stage.
Individual players have their own score determined by the number of games they have won.
At the end of the day a final was played and the A group was won by Chris Mepham and Jim Mackin with Terry Alexander in third place.
Group B ended with Diane Sharpe and Tony Warth as the winners and Peter Hamlet in third place.
Gordon Gray organised the day capably assisted by James Gray and Callum Simmons.
l For players interested in post Christmas exercise the annual mixed doubles tournament for over 35s will take place on Tuesday, December 28.
To enter this event sign the notice on the clubhouse noticeboard.
l Meanwhile the weather has held up events in the Veterans League.
Two of the men’s teams were due to play the final matches of the season but have been unable to play.
