Boston Hockey Club Ladies went down 2-0 at City of Peterborough 3rds.

Following a downpour which delayed the start of the match, Boston began strongly.

Impressive play on the left from Lauren Harvey, combining with Sophie Nundy, created several chances before a short corner, pushed out by Caroline Chester-O’Neill, saw Lauren Pitts’ shot blocked by the home keeper.

However, Peterborough took the lead from a fast break which saw them outnumber the Boston defence.

After a positive half-time talk, Boston returned hungry to get something from the game.

As Peterborough piled on the pressure, keeper Donna Chester-O’Neill kept Boston in the contest with some fantastic saves.

Boston conceded a number of short corners, but positive running out by Katie Beeson and good defending by Lisa Ceaser, Petra Wood and Claire Nundy made sure the away side continued their stoic defence of set pieces.

As Boston forced their way back into the game, Kelly Tomlinson and Sophie Nundy combined for Beeson but another chance went begging.

Caroline Chester-O’Neill, Akayla Newton, Leigh Chapman and Laura Panton were also playing well in the middle of the pitch for Boston, who were beginning to win a number of short corners.

But it was Peterborough who wrapped things up with a second counter-attack, slotting home the loose ball after a good stick stop from Donna Chester-O’Neill.

Boston host Long Sutton Seconds on Saturday (KO 2pm).
