The 2014 Hockey World Cup began with a defeat for Hannah Macleod.

The Boston-born striker was part of the England squad which were beaten 2-1 by the USA at the Kyocera Stadium on Sunday.

Kate Richardson-Walsh scored for England.

England’s women will now be looking to claim their first win of the competition today (Tuesday) as they face China in their second Pool B contest.

Forward Macleod is currently plying her trade for Leicester.

The tournament is being held in the Hague.
