THERE were several tournaments over the Christmas holidays for Boston Tennis Club members.
l Boston youngsters took part in a Grade three event at Loughborough.
Henry Beesley lost in the semi final of the under 14 event to Ryan Palmer from Leicestershire but then won the third fourth play off to finish third.
l In the under 16 event Dom Beesley was seeded three and beat the number two seed Stefan Rhodes in the semi- final 7-6, 6-4. He then beat the number one seed from Oxfordshire 6-2 6-1 in the final.
l In the U18 event Dom Beesley was not seeded but beat Prasanna Sai Kiran Kudaravalli 6-0, 6-3 in the semi and Jack George Burnell the number three seed from Hereford and Worcester 6-4 6-3 in the final to win the event.
l In tournaments held at Boston Tennis Club James Niedermeier was the winner of the under 18 boys tournament.
James reached the final stages with wins over Ryan Frankish and Carl Robinson whilst Calum McCaig took his place in the final after a semi-final win against Sam Khan.
James played Calum McCaig in the final and won the event 4-2, 4-1.
l There were two mini tennis events.
In the nine and under tournament Daniel Dorey-Rodriguez played Lucas East in the final. It was a very close match and Daniel won through 8-6, 10-12, 7-5.
At mini tennis red level Matthew Gedney played Paris Royal in the final and won through to finish first in this tournament.
l The Open Over 35s Mixed Doubles Tournament, sponsored by The Bombay Brasserie, took place just after Christmas.
The event was played indoors and presented a great opportunity for some exercise for players after the Christmas holiday.
Ros Keane and Peter Elphick confirm their position as the players to beat in this event when once again they defeated all comers.
Competitors were divided in to two groups and every pair played one another with the group winners determined by the greatest number of matches won at this stage.
In the semi-finals Peter Elphick and Ros Keane beat Anthony Hulley and Sarah Moysey 6-3 while Rachel Atkinson and David Makins nudged ahead of Maurice Lawrence and Margaret Wright 6-4.
In a well-contested final Ros and Peter were the winners with a 6-3 result over David and Rachel.
Prizes from Bombay Brasserie were presented on behalf of the sponsors by the tournament organiser David Makins.
