THE Boston Dragons have won the under 17s Lincolnshire Basketball League - in their first season together.

And they have made it a double after becoming cup winners.

The Dragons, who train at Kirton Middlecott Sports Centre, finished top of the league after the 2010-11 season concluded this month.

The basketball league started in September and has proved successful, with tournaments taking place every month at a central venue in Lincoln.

Boston claimed the cup competition, with Lincoln’s Active Nation and Gainsborough Giants finishing in second and third places respectively.

Boston coach Tadas Zobiela said: “This was our first year playing as a team.

“The league gave us essential experience to develop as a team and work together.”

The Lincolnshire Basketball League will start again in September, and will expand to under 17 and under 19 age groups due to the demand, and more teams wanting to enter.

Lucy Willets is the basketball development officer based at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership.

She said: “The league has been so successful this year and all of the teams have really enjoyed playing other clubs from across the county.

“It’s great to see the teams developing and players improving over the season, and I’m delighted to extend it to offer more players the opportunity to take part.

“Boston Dragons have played exceptionally well over the season and have some really talented young players – I look forward to seeing them next year.”

Boston Dragons always welcome new players.

They train at Kirton’s Middlecott Sports Centre every Saturday (1pm-2.30pm).
