THE first in the series of Boston’s Friday night Five-Mile Road Races was won by Edgars Sokolousks.
He clocked 33 mins 40 secs to pip fellow Boston and District AC runner Dennis Rainbow in breezy but dry conditions.
The prevailing weather conditions affected the times for the 5.4 mile event.
Staring at the B-Hive in Punchbowl Lane, Rainbow and Sokolousks led the group over the early stages of the race and had a considerable lead at the two-mile mark.
Locked together until the final stages eventually it was Edgars who pulled away crossing the finish line first.
Rainbow finished three seconds behind.
Third finisher was Stuart Grader (36 mins 26 secs), ahead of Geoff Johnson (38 mins 22 secs).
The first female was Vivienne Martin, eighth, (45mins 35 secs), one place ahead of Emma Penniston (46mins 39 secs).
Kate Johnson, in 12th, reduced her personal best time by five minutes despite the windy conditions.
Other local runners times were: Stewart Dean (38 mins 29 secs), Tony Tomlin (44 mins 42 secs), Ken Townend (47 mins 58 secs), Elena Lescova (48 mins 36 secs), Paul Johnson (50 mins14 secs), Michael Johnson (50 mins 14 secs).
The next race begins at the B-Hive on July 22 (7pm).
