Boxer Gel Finch has become a national champion.
The 15-year-old defeated Billericay ABC’s Kariss Barwick in the final of the National Association of Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs competition in Portsmouth at the weekend.
Finch, representing Boston Amateur Boxing Club, met a stern rival in the shape of Barwick.
However, she was in no mood to lose this 57kg bout.
Finch started strongly, taking the early initiative and throwing more punches than Barwick.
The Boston pugilist implemented her game plan of strong starts and finishes in every round.
Using all the ring, Barwick had to stalk Finch, trying to close her down - but whatever Barwick did, Finch did twice as much and her attacks were troubling the girl from Billericay.
As the bout drew to its conclusion, the crowd was warming to both boxers, but there was only one winner.
Finch looked the stronger in every round and claimed the gold medal.
