Speedway ace Mickie Simpson claimede first place at the Loga Grasstrack competition this weekend, also making the final of the third round of the British Young Lions Speedway championship at King’s Lynn.
A total of 125 riders took to the tapes at Lynn, and Mickie’s first heat saw him finish first, aided by Jordan Palin’s bike spluttering to a halt.
He then won heat two and three, despite bike problems, before seeing off Sam McGurk in his fourth heat.
The final saw Mickie line up alopngside Jordan, Joe Thompson and Dan Thompson at the tapes.
Jordan took the lead with Mickie in second, only for him to cross up a little and lose drive out of turn two, with Joe going around him and Dan coming under him.
The harder he tried to get back at them the more minor errors crept in and Mickie had to settle for fourth, with Jordan first, Joe second and Dan third.
Mickie returned to action on Sunday at the Loga Grasstrack Club in Preston, where a depleted field of junior class riders were there.
He won three of his opening four heats, being pipped by Sam McGurk in the other.
But with conditions deteriorating riders were asked whether they wanted to cancel, but it was agreed to run the final heats.
In heat five Mickie only needing to stay on to take the overall win, and he led from the tapes but was struggling to see from spray of his front wheel.
Sam passed him to take the victory with Mickie second, but doing enough to win the meeting.
Mickie also Picked up his New 250 Grasstrack bike From Frame Builders Track-PLus for the 2017 Season.
