WYBERTON-based Tom Fisher continued his run of top six results when he powered the Kawasaki Team Green/G&S Racing machine through to fifth place in round eight of the Metzeler National Superstock 600 championship at Oulton Park on Sunday.
Friday’s free practice was hampered by driving rain but by Saturday the sky had cleared and qualifying took place in dry conditions. Fisher equalled his bestever qualifying by securing a front row start in fourth place.
He maintained this position as the race got underway and became embroiled in a battle for position with six other riders all challenging for second place. Fisher made it through to third on lap seven of 12 but had a big moment one lap later when he was flicked out of the saddle. He did well to remain upright but lost momentum and dropped back to sixth place.
But he kept battling on and eventually overtook James Rose who made a mistake and ran on at the chicane. Fisher maintained fifth place to the chequered flag to pick up a further 11 championship points which elevate him up to sixth place in the overall rider standings on 69 points.
“That was a really hard race,” said Tom. “I was battling for position throughout the 12 laps and there was a lot of very close racing going on. Until I made that mistake I was on for a podium finish but I lost ground and ended up in fifth. I would like to thank the team owners Graham and Sue from G&S Racing at Wyberton, Kawasaki Motors UK and all my personal sponsors as without their support I would not be in this position. I am really enjoying my racing this year; I have secured some really good results and am moving forward all the time.”
The next round is at Brands Hatch over the weekend of July 20 – 22.
