Gold tops take league match honours

BOSTON and District Athletic Club representatives enjoyed fine, still conditions for the last of this season’s series of Lincolnshire Track and Field League matches at Grantham’s South Kesteven Stadium on Sunday.

The programme opened with the 10,000 metres County Track Championship with two Gold Tops taking honours.

Jose Ferriera won the Lincolnshire Senior Mens Championship finishing in a time of 37 mins 05.2secs and Club Captain Aidan McClure recorded 41mins 31.3secs to win the 2012 Under 20 Mens Championship Gold Award.

The final Lincs Track League match of the year also included the 2012 County Triathlon Championships for Under 13 Boys and Girls with entrants competing in Long Jump, Shot and 800 metres events.

In the Under 13 Boys Championship Boston and District Athletics Club representatives featured in the top five positions at the end of a closely contested combined events encounter.

Blake Garwell opened with a Long Jump measuring 3.57m which put him in fifth place and followed this with a putt of 6.88m in the Shot.

In the third discipline the 800 metres Blake ran a well judged race to cross the finish line first achieving a total points score of 47 for second place in the Triathlon Championship and the Lincolnshire Silver award.

Team mate Will Parsons was tenth after a leap of 3.35min the Long Jump and then recorded 6.76m in the Shot Putt.

At the end of a determined two lap contest Will accumulated a total of 42 points to claim third place and the Lincs Championship Bronze award.

Kieran Pickwell and Tom Evans both finished with 41 points in joint fifth position.

Kieran’s best Long Jump was a promising 3.74m and Tom produced 6.88m in the Shot contest.

In seventh place in the Championship Finlay Whittaker scored a total of 26 points moving up from 13th position at the end of the first discipline to overtake five other contenders.

In the Under 20 Womens age group Alice Flint finished her 2012 track season on a high notching up three victories.

In the 400 metres Hurdles she clocked 72.8 secs in first place and followed this with a 67.0 secs time for the flat 400 metres for a second event win. Alice also won the Triple Jump with a leap of 9.47m.

In the same age category Emma Penniston won the 100 metres, finished second in the 400 metres recording 76.0secs and third at the end of the Mile race clocking 6 mins 03.5secs.

Josh Wattam produced two good sprint performances at Under 20 level for second places over both 100 metres, and 200 metres in a time of 23.5secs.

Sam Johnson recorded 53.7secs for second place in the Under 20 Mens 400 metres and also looked sharp over the half lap sprint.

In the Senior Mens age group Alex Tilley claimed second place in the 400 metres recording 57.1 secs and Paul Porter was second in the Triple Jump (9.72m) and in the 200 metres.

Stacey Worth cleared 1.45m in the Senior Womens High Jump, recorded 14.1 secs in second place in the 100 metres and added a third finish in the Shot with a putt of 9.02m.

At Under 17 level Maria Hollingsworth won both the 100 metres 13.5secs and the 200 metres sprint and Rob Porter clocked 14.1 secs in third place in the Mens 100 metres.

Josh Maund was second over 800 metres and recorded 5 mins 12.4 secs in the same position in the Mile as well as recording 59.0 secs for seventh over 400 metres.

Becky Locking returned a time of 13.9 secs in fifth place over 100 metres and looked sharp over 200 metres.

In the Under 15 Girls section Selena Wells recorded 13.8secs in second position in the 100 metres and in the same event Frances Nuttell clocked 14.0 secs in fourth place before clearing 1.45m to win the High Jump contest.

A clearance of 8.66m earned a third place in Triple Jump for Lara Smith who also clocked 30.3 secs in the 200 metres for another third.

Under 13 Matthew Connolly was fourth in the 100 metres in 15.8 secs, fifth in the Mile race with 6 mins 42.8 secs and sixth in Long Jump with a leap of 3.58m.

Mark Penniston recorded 15.4 secs. in ninth position in the 100 metres.

A combination of Blake Garwell, Will Parsons, Tom Evans and Kieran Pickwell crossed the line first at the end of the Under 13 Boys 4 x 200 metres Relay at the end of Sunday’s programme.

In the Under 11 age group William Wright achieved two personal best performances finishing third in Long Jump with a leap of 3.28m and in the same position at the end of the 600 metres recording 2 mins 15.2 secs.

Alec Sykes was fifth in the 600 metres clocking 2 mins 17.6 secs and over the same distance David Scott recorded 2 mins 33.9secs and achieved a personal best leap of 2.74m in Long Jump.

Laura vam Lier and Shannon Roylance both made promising debuts on the track and in field events.

Next Sunday Frances Nuttell, Selena Wells and Will Parsons are included in the County team selected to compete in the annual East Midlands Under 13 and Under 15 Inter County match hosted by Lincolnshire at Grantham.
