Charlie Bonner has picked up a silver medal after competing in the Lord Taverners National Junior Wheelchair Basketball Championships at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium.
Representing the East Midlands in the under 15s wheelchair basketball classification, the 14-year-old, from Kirton, was in fine form.
A couple of shaky performances saw Charlie’s East Midlands side finish third in their pool, only having won two of their four matches.
However, this was good enough to put them into the quarter-finals against the South East.
An impressive team performance saw East Midlands book a place in the semi-final to face Yorkshire.
In the group matches, Yorkshire had a fairly easy 14-2 win over East Midlands, but a terrific turnaround saw Charlie and his side record a 25–10 victory.
Victory in the semi-final put the East Midlands into the final against West Midlands.
The final proved to be a game too far as East Midlands put up a good fight, but the greater strength in depth of the West Midlands squad saw them take the title with a 19–11 victory.
