A DAMAGED piston stopped Boston’s 1,300 stock car star Lewis O Keefe in his tracks when the 2011 season started at King’s Lynn.

However - after a night of replacing sleep with work in the garage, including a change of engine - O’Keefe returned to the track at Skegness, showing why many think it will be just a matter of time before he moves up the grades.

He claimed a third place in one of the heats, combined with some other good drives.

Lewis will be looking to impress once again when he returns to action at King’s Lynn’s Norfolk Arena this Saturday (6.30pm)

Also in action on Saturday are the 2L stock cars, but the real excitement is mounting over the unlimited bangers, where there are more than 100 vehicles booked in to compete.

Boston’s Sam Gelsthorpe will make his 2011 debut in the unlimited bangers, where the East Anglian final is the feature event. Sam will defend the title he won last year.

Saturday is also a World of Shale qualifier for the bangers, where Sam’s pedigree means he will be among the favourites, despite currently being outside the automatic qualifying places.

Other local drivers in action in the bangers include members of the famed Mr Men team who are carving out a real reputation for themselves on the National Racing scene. Racing for the team on Saturday are Bobby Daniels (Freiston), Dean Molhourd (Surfleet), Gary Beecham (Frieston) and Lee Ranshaw (Boston).
