Ross Makar drove to two podium finishes in the opening round of the MG Trophy Championship last weekend.
Competing in the season’s curtain-raiser at Brands Hatch for the 4G Racing team, the 24-year-old was actually taking part on one of his least favourite circuits.
However, he didn’t let that bother him as he surged to two top finishes in the Class B Championships, racing in his MG ZR.
The weekend began with problems during first practice on the Friday morning, when his new clutch shattered after three laps.
A replacement clutch had to be fitted and Makar was stuck in the garage until the two afternoon sessions,.
Because of that the changing conditions made it hard to get the set-up right for Saturday’s qualifying.
However, Makar qualified for the first race in third position and race two in second place.
A problem with the timing put a slower car in grid two for race one and this caused problems off the line as Makar was blocked in and slipped down to fifth. However, he battled back to claim third spot.
Race two the following day started with Makar holding second place from the start.
His luck deserted him when lapping the slower cars and Makar just fell in all the wrong places and couldn’t quite latch on to the back of the race winner.
Glaswegian Makar is currently living in Gosberton Risegate.
