The third pursuit race of Witham Sailing Club’s Summer Series took place last Wednesday.
The wind was blowing steadily straight up the river which avoided the normal calm spots and shifts and meant that, in order to win, competitors had to concentrate on maintaining maximum speed throughout the race.
Delphin Esteves, sailing his Lark dinghy, made his way to the front of the fleet and held a good lead throughout most of the race.
Craig Manning and Bethany Mason started later in their Laser dinghies and chased hard. With about four minutes to go, Manning caught up and passed Esteves, making it Manning first, Esteves second and Mason third.
The junior Topper race, held in parallel with the main event, was won Aaron Manning - making it a double victory for father and son, with Nathan Stopper second.
