The second pursuit race of Witham Sailing Club’s Summer Series took place last Wednesday.
A large storm cloud passing to the south-west of Boston produced a wind shift of 180 degrees shortly before the start of the race and continued to affect the wind strength and direction throughout the event.
Initially, light winds meant that the early starters were not able to build up a sustainable lead and the faster boats were quickly through the pack.
Those who managed to retain momentum and clear wind fared best.
At the end of the race the leader was Bethany Mason, in her Laser, who was being chased hard by second-place Frank Royle, in an Enterprise, and Alan Cox, who was in third in his RS 200.
The junior Topper race, held in parallel with the main event, was won by Alex Caudwell.
Aaron Manning was in second place
Witham Sailing Club holds races every Wednesday evening and often on Sundays, also running training for all ages on Saturday afternoons.
