Boston Tennis Club’s Mixed Seconds have reached the final of the Leggott Cup.

Most of the contests in the Boston and District Mixed League are nearing completion and the final matches are being played.

However, cup action continues.

The Leggott Cup is the league’s knockout competition, and Boston Seconds met Boston Fourths in the quarter-finals.

Playing for Boston Seconds were Sophie Hawkesworth, Sev Smura, Sarah Moysey, Alex Cobb, Penny Gibbons and David Dunlop.

Boston Fourths’ team was made up of Rob Bonser, Sharron Thorogood, Howard Baxter, Diane Sharpe, Pawel Aranin and Jenny Murphy.

Boston Seconds progressed to meet Horncastle in the semi-finals where a further win saw the six of captain Sophie Hawkesworth, Sev Smura, Rachel Gedney, David Dunlop, Emily Hawkesworth and John Larke progress after a 7-2 scorerline.

They will now face Woodhall Spa in the upcoming final.

Boston Tennis Club’s ladies teams have hit a tough patch in the Lincolnshire Slazenger Doubles League, with three of the five sides unable to register victories.

The Seconds, competing in Division One, had a difficult match away to Louth Indoor Tennis Centre and lost 1 -8 to strong opposition.

The team on this occasion were Jenny McGarel, Sue Burnett, Tori Needham, Hilary Calvert, Joan Beale and Mary Smura.

Boston Thirds play in Division 3A and the team lost a very close match at Lincoln-baed Eastgate.

All but one of the rubbers involved tie-break in at least one of the sets and there were five third-set tie-breaks.

However, Jane Hindmarch, Paula Smith, Joan Beale, Helen Motson, Chloe Robinson and Hilary Calvert lost 3-6.

Boston Fourths, in Division 3B, also lost out – this time 2-7 to Bourne Seconds.

The team was Denise Priestley, Helen Duckett, Jenny Grant, Annette Jakeman, Leasley Addy and Paula Smith.
