Sam Booth, a county under 17s squash finalist, decided to challenge himself by entering the National Junior Racketball Championships, held recently in Liverpool.
The tournament attracted players from all over the country and Sam, a pupil at Boston Grammar School, has only been playing racketball for one year, inspired by his father who had represented Boston Squash and Racketball Club in several competitions.
On the basis of his county squash ranking, 15-year-old Sam was confident that he could cause an upset.
Unknown to many, Sam was drawn against a strong pool of seeded players.
Close matches demonstrating tactical and technical expertise followed and, growing in confidence, Sam finished a very creditable third place in his age group.
