World and Olympic Champion Alex Gregory, along with former World under 23 medallist Matt Tarrant, won the men’s pairs event at the Great Britain rowing trials this weekend - hosted by Boston Rowing Club.
Gregory was one of a number of World Champions and Olympic Games veterans who were looking to book their place in the Team GB set-up for 2014.
Alan Campbell won the open men’s single, with Frances Houghton taking the honours in the equivalent women’s event.
Peter Chambers and Imogen Walsh took the titles in the men’s and women’s lightweight singles respectively.
Men’s chief coach Jurgen Grobler was also in attendance to witness the 5km time trial event, an annual entry in the Boston Rowing Club calendar.
Sir David Tanner, the GB rowing team performance director said: “We’ve had a great day. We have had some really competitive racing of a high standard”.
It has been two years since the last full December Assessment, when all the GB squad rowers were involved on this course. The events that year (2011) were won by Sophie Hosking (lightweight women’s single), Richard Chambers (lightweight men’s single), Alan Campbell (open men’s single), Anna Watkins (open women’s single) and the men’s pair of Andrew Triggs Hodge and Alex Partridge.
