Parkinson’s making the A grade

TWO members of the Boston Squash and Racketball Club’s Cambridgeshire League team had individual successes in the Lee-on-Solent graded tournament near Southampton last weekend.

Richard Parsons won the A Grade event, which included 24 professional and county players from all over the country.

Chris Clements won the B Grade event, which consisted of top club players.

This was his first tournament of such a calibre and the victory reflects the improvements he has recently made to his game.

Richard came into the tournament on the Saturday into the second round and beat Harry Carr 3-0.

He then overcame Nathan Derrick, who had had a convincing victory in the last round himself, 3-1.

The following day he beat Paul Cresswell 3-1 in the semi-final, before winning the event courtesy of a 3-0 win over Sam Levin.

Chris also entered at the second round stage.

After an initial 3-1 win he beat Annabelle C-Ballands 3-2 in the quarter finals.

A 3-1 victory over Matt Hewitt in the semis led to Chris facing Daniel Jones in the final, and the Boston player took the winner’s title following a five-set thriller.

The A Grade competition included Charlie Johnson and Paul Cresswell, who will both be competing in Boston’s professional tournament next month.

The Boston Open will be held at Boston Squash and Racketball Club over the weekend of December 9-11.

It is open for the public to come along and watch for free.
