Some good results and performances throughout the summer place Boston Tennis Club’s Men’s Seconds and the Ladies’ Thirds at the top of their divisions in the Lincolnshire Slazenger Doubles League.

Boston Men’s Seconds had a solid win against Grimsby Thirds to secure a place as winners of Division Three A, and a welcome return next year to second division tennis.

The team of Dan Bambridge, Will Mason, David Cheer, Geoff Short, James Newton and Owen Jary rallied to a clean 9-0 sweep.

Boston’s Men’s Fourths, also playing in this division, finished in a creditable third place despite ending the season with a defeat.

The team of Toby McDonnell-Woods, Michal Chmielik, Richard Woods, Zach McDonnell-Woods, Zafar Khan and Robert Bonser lost 2-7 to Eastgate.

Boston’s Ladies’ Third team are also celebrating promotion to Division Two of this league, completing the season with a win against St James Seconds, which puts the team in first place in Division Three A.

In a tough deciding match against St James, Hilary Calvert, Chloe Robinson, Joan Beale, Jane Hindmarch, Rachel Brook and Helen Duckett won 5-4.

The Boston Ladies’ Seconds will rejoin Boston Thirds in Division Two after ending up in the relegation zone of Division One.

Their fate was already sealed, but Rachel Gedney, Tracy Hull, Catherine Ellis, Helen Duckett, Claire Smith and Mary Smura ended the season with a 9-0 defeat to Tennis Buddies.

Boston Men’s Thirds, in Division three B, just missed out on promotion as Woodhall nudged ahead of them on rubber difference.

This weekend sees Boston Ladies’ Firsts and Boston Men’s Firsts play Grantham teams – away for the Ladies and home for the Men.

This will be a particularly important match for the Ladies, in the team’s attempt to become the Lincolnshire Slazenger Doubles League Champions.
