Rain reduces invitation day

MARY Piper and Fran Grant have won the Ladies’ Invitation Day at Kirton Holme Golf Club.

The event was reduced to a nine-hole betterball stableford due to heavy rain.

The winners finished with 21 points, ahead of Vee King and Lin Walker (20 points) and third-placed Margaret Johns and Joan Payling (19 points).

The nearest the pin for the guests was won by Ruth Atkins, and the successful club member was Marlene Morris.

Nearest the line for the guests was Lydia Allen and the member was Carol Nundy.

The nine-hole stableford competitions continued.

A singles event saw Gloria Bursnell successful with 20 points, ahead of runner-up Gill Smith (20 points) and Phyllis Desmond (18 points),

Pirjo Bennett needed just 18 points to win another singles stableford. Second was Chris Edmondson with 15 points.

An 18-hole stableford saw Gloria Bursnell victorious on countback with 35 points.

Marlene Morris was second, with Jackie Ward third (33 points).

Monthly medals results: Event one - 1 Marlene Morris gross 85, nett 67, 2 Jackie Ward 79/69, 3 Penny Wainwright 104/72; match two - 1 Rosemary Bell 102/69, 2 Val Richardson 86/70, 3 Marlene Morris 87/70.

Four ladies played at Southview Park in Skegness for the Summer Wanderers Trophy.

Winner Jackie Ward scored an excellent 29 points.

The Lincolnshire Past Captain’s Golfing Society held their annual competition at Blankney Golf Club on August 23, with a number of Kirton Holme past captains attending.

Last year’s Kirton Holme lady captain Gloria Bursnell, playing off a reduced handicap of 18, was among the individual winners with a score of 35 points.
