Third played fourth in Division Two of the Boston and District Table Tennis League - a match pitting Sibsey A against stablemates Sibsey B, and it was the A team who emerged victorious, putting them within touching distance of the teams above them in the promotion places.
However, it was fifth set deciders which ultimately settled the outcome of the match, all three going the A team’s way.
First, Mat Haslam saw off the challenge of Richard Hill, and then it was Steve Hill’s turn to lose in five to Mat.
Mat was also involved in the third key game, this time with doubles partner Fred Calvert, as they defeated Steve and Wayne Grooby.
Neil Snaith had no such troubles, winning his three in straight sets, while Fred could pick up just one set, against Wayne.
Another inter-club match saw Lodgers D host their table-topping C team, but there was no charity given as the C team powered to a decisive 9-1 victory.
Tony Kime prevented the whitewash with a splendid five set win over Vic Clements, Vic going 2-0 sets down, winning the next two ends before losing out in the fifth.
Steve Blanchard took Scott Sykes to deuce in the third end, only to lose out 14-16, while Tony and Ian Gorrie endured two losses at deuce in the doubles to Scott and Andy Birks, but it was an evening when the C team were almost always in control.
Second-placed Lodgers Blades kept up their challenge for top spot with an 8-2 victory over Belchford, Andrew Pocklington continuing his fine run of results for Belchford with wins over Scott Raistrick and Gavin Read.
Simon Raistrick powered through his evening with straight sets victories, whilst the doubles threw up a record score in the doubles this season, where Gavin and Scott beat Jon Newby and Andrew 19-17 in the second end.
