Hannah Macleod suffered heartbreak when her England side lost on penalties in the final of the EuroHockey 2013 event.
The women’s side had fought out a thrilling 4-4 contest with rivals Germany in Belgium.
But when it mattered, the Germans took their chances, winning 2-0.
It was the first time the highly-fancied England side had reached the final in 22 years.
And Boston-born Macleod was among the squad looking to brings gold back home.
But they had to settle for silver on this occasion.
England had forced their way into the final following a 3-2 penalty-shootout victory over the Netherlands.
The match had finished 1-1, with England’s goal being scored by a Dutch opponent.
Striker Macleod scored twice for England in the group stages.
She found the net as England beat Spain 3-0, also getting her name on the scoresheet in the third group stage match, a 2-1 success over Scotland.
England were also beaten 2-1 by Germany in their pool.
