Simpson is Boston Golf Club’s ladies’ champion

Ruth Simpson won the ladies’ section’s club championship at Boston Golf Club.

She completed the 36-hole event with a gross 171.

Junior Lois Williamson won the best nett with 141.

Lady captain Joan Young played in the England Golf Regional Medal final at Radcliffe on Trent.

There were 130 participants and Joan came eighth to book her place in the next round at Northamptonshire County Golf Club.

Junior golfer Erin Brown claimed the Dunhill Islands Trophy at Boston Golf Club.

The title is awarded to the player in the ladies’ section with the best stableford score of the month, and Erin cardede 35 points.

In second place was Maureen Marshall, with 32 points.

The June Frankish Trophy, better known as the Granny Trophy, was presented to Ann Hodgson, who was delighted to receive it.

A club stableford competition was won by Ruth Simpson, who posted a fantastic gross 73, nett 64, reducing her handicap to eight.

The Monthly Medal was won by Judith Flevill, with a nett 71. Second was Hilary Calvert (72), who beat Chris Needham on countback.

The Flag Competition was won by Ann Gullick with a nett 73, beating Jane Bratley (74), who was second ahead of Ann Sutton on countback.

The Ladies’ Open Am-Am was played on a very cold day but all competitors were in good spirits.

Blankney Golf Club’s Elizabeth Mackay, Janet Spencerknott, Jane Howard and Sheena Bennett won with 83 points.

The team of Chris Sherriff, Barbara Unwin, Yvonne Wright and Pat Couture were second on 80.

Invitation Day was played in much warmer conditions and was won by vice-captain Julia West and partner Jo Burden (Woodhall Spa) with 44 points on a countback from Judith Flevill and Greta Marshall.

The Australian Spoons was won by Claire Rylott and Yvonne Schaffarczyk.

Their score of 44 points sees them progress to the next round in Matlock.

The Coronation Foursomes winners were Chris Needham and Yvonne Wright.

Boston GC’s ladies’ team have played two away matches at Blankney and Woodhall Spa, securing halves at both courses.

They also won at home against Burghley Park

The club’s Mail on Sunday team - Jean Markham, Claire Rylott, Pam Hyde and Anne Wallhead - have exited the competition, but there was success for our Daily Mail Foursomes pair of Rylott and Schaffarczyk, who beat Kenwick Park at home and go onto the fourth round.
