BERNICE Wilson is ‘on the blocks’ and ready to ‘go’ as she prepares for the UK indoor season.
The Wyberton-based GB international is hoping to return to track action at Manchester in early January, the first meeting of a busy indoor season in this country.
Bernice, pictured, told the Standard: “I ended the season as UK’s number one runner over 60m so I hope to build on that and continue to improve.
“It will be a case of one step at a time over the next few weeks, all building up to the national indoor championships in Sheffield in February.”
She added: “I’m really hoping to get my times down. There are a number of really good meetings in Manchester and Sheffield and I hope to get to some events abroad.
“I will start in January and just see how it all goes.”
Bernice’s main aim is the European Indoor Championships which are being held in Paris in March, but in the meantime she is doing the ‘hard yards’ at Boston’s Princess Royal Sports Arena.
“I’m doing my winter training at the PRSA which has a 60 metre indoor track,” Bernice continued.
“It’s been quite a struggle to get to training because of the weather but I’m really lucky to have the facilities at PRSA.”
The main event on the 2011 outdoor calendar is the World Championships which are being held in Daegu, South Korea from August 27-September 4.
Bernice concluded: “It would be great to get to the world championships. I made a lot of progress in 2010 and I hope 2011 will be even better.”
