Ben Wilson says he ‘can’t wait’ to make his return to the British Superbike championship.

It has been announced that the Kirton race ace will step up to the nation’s premier class of riding for the 2014 season, competing on the Gearlink Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R.

Gearlink Kawasaki have made the decision to retain their rider for a sixth year, but feel the time is right for both Wilson and the team to spread their wings into the British Superbike class.

Wilson will be the sole rider for the team in the Superbike class, but Gearlink Kawasaki will continue to contest the British Supersport championship with two riders, Glenn Irwin and Luke Hedger.

“After five years in the Supersport class it is time for me to move on,” said Wilson, who previously rode in the Superbikes for Vivaldi Racing.

“Michael and Norma de Bidaph, who own and run the Gearlink Kawasaki team, are like a second family to me and I am delighted to be remaining with them for another year.

“We are all looking forward to the new season and can’t wait to begin our programme of testing.”

Michael de Bidaph, team owner and manager, said: “I am very excited about moving up to the Superbike class next year, especially having Ben on board the bike.

“I feel the time is right for both the team and Ben to move up.

“But I also realise that it is a big step and it will be a tough job.”

The 2014 season begins over the Easter weekend of April 18-21 at Brands Hatch, and runs over 11 rounds at major UK circuits plus a round at Assen in Holland.
