Kirton racer Ben Wilson showed most of the the British Supersport pack the way around the Donington Park track when he took the Gearlink Kawasaki out for its first test on Thursday.
He topped the leaderboard in the early stages, but ended all three sessions in second place just a fraction of a second behind Jason O’Halloran on the Samsung Honda.
Wilson said: “I was pretty pleased with the test as, apart from a few laps around Mallory Park a couple of weeks ago, this was the first time the bike has been put through its paces on track.
“With the cold track conditions we were not up to race speed, but on saying that I was only two seconds away from my fastest time in last season’s race at Donington Park.
“We took our time to settle the bike in and blow away the cobwebs and got steadily faster throughout the day.
“We are at Brands Hatch next week on the Indy circuit, so let’s hope we can get some serious testing under our belts.”
The opening race of the new season is at Brands Hatch, on April 5-7.
