Hot shot Paul Wilkinson is celebrating after winning the Champion of Champions clay pigeon shooting contest at the CLA Game Fair.

The 40-year-old - who has shot for England four times - had to fend off some of the best opponents in the country to win the title at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire last weekend.

In the final shoot-off, Paul, from Hill Dyke, shot 37/40, to win the top prize, £1,000 and free use of a Range Rover.

“It felt nice to win against my fellow champions of their counties,” he told The Standard.

Paul finished first out of the 260 competitors vying for the Lincolnshire title.

A score of 168/180 then saw Paul qualify as one of the final 10 entrants.

He then squeezed into the final five in fifth place with a round of 32/40.

But when it mattered, Paul missed just three of the final 40 shots to defeat runner-up Ollie Baker (Wiltshire) and third-placed Paul Lovick (Hertfordshire).

Paul has been shooting for about 20 years on and off and used to work as a gamekeeper.
