Cojo’s East Lindsey Cricket League Division One
Freiston L&L 1st XI 109 all out, Skegness 134 all out - Skegness won by 25 runs.
Freiston completed their league campaign with a narrow defeat to reigning champions Skegness.
After the visitors elected to bat first, Freiston started waywardly with the ball. Batsman Houghton and S Chamberlain took full advantage, cashing in on anything loose.
The pair put on 61 before the much needed breakthrough came when Houghton edged behind off the bowling of John Goodfellow for 26.
Ashok Kumar stifled the Skegness batsman and deservedly had Chamberlain caught in the deep by Tommy Atkinson for 45.
Freiston now took the upper hand, keeping the scoring rate low and picking up regular wickets. Tommy Atkinson dismissed Hewitt for 19 with a spectacular full length catch to complete the caught and bowled dismissal.
Atkinson also clean bowled Pringle for 9. The ever-impressive Ollie Booth picked up two wickets in a good six over spell.
Ashok Kumar had Forman well caught by Sunil Panjwani before two wickets for Richard Paul and a third wicket for Atkinson completed the Skegness innings, seeing the visitors bowled out for 134.
As has been the way this season Freiston lost early wickets being reduced to 37-4 in the face of good bowling from S Chamberlain and Pringle, a player who has played county second eleven cricket this season.
A fifth wicket partnership between Panjwani and Kumar looked to have put Freiston on track. The aggressive pair scored quickly and looked in control until Panjwani (27) was undone by a delivery from Taylor which appeared to keep low.
The score was on 97 when Ashok Kumar was harshly adjudged LBW for 19, which proved a turning point in the game as despite the best efforts of the lower order, good catching from Skegness saw Freiston fall 25 runs short.
Despite this defeat, Freiston can be proud of claiming eight victories and securing a top half finish in their first season in division one.
