Freiston’s second team started their season with the narrowest of defeats to Grimoldby in a thrilling low-scoring match.

Batting first, Freiston could only make 66.

Ashok Kumar (18) and Vishal Rajput (13) were the only two players to make double figures, as the Grimoldby attack was led by Justin Owen and G. Gregory who both took three wickets.

Freiston started superbly with the ball to reduce the visitors to 14-5.

Jonny Whitehead claimed his first Freiston wicket with only his fourth ball.

Danny Lumley claimed three wickets in his impressive opening spell, while J.P. Horton also claimed an early wicket, thanks to a sharp catch by Connor Goodfellow at slip.

Law and Chatterton counterattacked well and took the total to 44, before Chatterton (13) was bowled by Horton.

Law top scored with 24, but three wickets for Ashok Kumar kept the game finally poised.

The experienced Justin Owen (15*) wisely guided his young team to victory, which he sealed by picking up two runs through square leg.
