Eight Boston and District AC representatives ran in the Lincolnshire County Cross Country Championships at Biscathorpe, near Donington on Bain, on Sunday.

The new venue, with races held over a challenging and more traditional cross country terrain in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds, tested contestants and the course included river crossings, rough uneven grassland and demanding climbs.

The prevailing dry, bright and still weather meant that despite heavy rain in the days leading up to the event, conditions were ideal for the running of the 2016 Championship races.

In the under 13 boys’ championship over 3.5K, Hallam Bedford finished in 13th position.

Over the same course in the under 13 girls’ contest, Lucy Raywood crossed the finish line in 19th place.

Alex Riches completed the 4.5K under 15 boys’ event in 15th position and James Rourk was 25th senior at the end of the 10K junior, senior, veteran men’s challenge.

Competing over 5.7K in the veteran women’s championship, Emma Penson entered the finish funnel in 13th position.

Three young Gold Tops ran in the non-championship under 11 race, organised by host club Louth AC as a curtain raiser to the main programme of county events.

Alice Frick ran very well over the 2K course to claim a very good fourth place in the girls’ competition.

In the boys’ contest, Haddley Bedford finished seventh and Matthew Lewis was 12th.

In the 2015 Lincolnshre Runner Cross Country League end-of-season presentations, four under 11 Boston and District AC runners were awarded medals, having completed a minimum of three of the four races in the series.

Alex Frick, Haddley Bedford, Ryan Firth and Matthew Lewis were all rewarded for their regular performances in Lincs League matches at Louth, Castledyke, Gainsborough and Cranwell.

On Saturday the next match in the series of Junior Sportshall Athletics events will be held at the B-Hive, with events for under sevens, nines, 11s and 13s boys and girls.

The events begin at 10am and registration is from 9.30am.
