Horncastle 63, Freiston LL 64-2 - Freiston won by eight wickets.

Freiston, Leake and Leverton CC started their 2016 season with a comfortable victory against a youthful Horncastle side in a pre-season friendly.

Tommy Atkinson and Taimur Mian restricted the Horncastle batsmen and both deserved to have taken a wicket.

Ollie Booth picked up two wickets and the tall paceman looked in fine form.

Experienced campaigner John Goodfellow took three wickets as Horncastle struggled against a strong Freiston bowling attack.

Youngsters Jack Lawrence and Connor Goodfellow each claimed a brace of wickets as Horncastle were all out for 63.

Opening batsmen Richard Paul and Waseem Ilyas started carefully and built a solid partnership for Freiston.

However, the pair were kept honest by some wholehearted bowing from Horncastle.

The opening pair added 57 before Paul was caught behind for 33.

Illyas was trapped LBW for 22 to become Whiting’s second victim, but Connor Goodfellow and Sunil Panjwani ensured Freiston claimed victory with eight wickets remaining.

Next week Freiston begin the competitive campaign with a South Lincs and Border League Cup match against Graves Park.
