Firsts win tennis battle

Boston Tennis Club’s Men’s Veterans Firsts chalked up another win in the Lincolnshire Slazenger Veterans League.

However, they were pushed hard by the club’s Second team.

Both teams are competing in Division One of the league and the Firsts - Ray Frankish, James Newton, Chris Cook and John Gibson - claimed the 3-1 win.

Richard Hart, Andy Clamp, Sev Smura and Terry Mastin competed hard, winning one rubber and coming close in another set.

Also in the Veterans League, Boston Ladies drew with Eastgate in their Division One contest.

The team of Linda Barrow, Rachel Gedney, Rachel Hawkesworth and Mary Smura had the home advantage and shared the spoils.

Boston Ladies’ Seconds, currently top of Division Two, were beaten 5-3 by Grantham.

Joan Beale, Catherine Ellis, Claire Smith and Jane Hindmarch competed.

In the Boston and District Winter League there were two matches, both played between Boston teams.

Boston A played Boston C, with the A’s young side of Harry Foster, Trent Hutson, Jake Sherrick and Connall Newton doing well to get a a set off Dan Bambridge, Anthony Hulley, James Newton and Owen Jary.

Boston D’s David Dunlop, Simon Beardsley, Zafar Khan and Daniel Maund were beaten 4-0 by Boston F’s Zach McDonnell-Wodds, Richard Woods, Phil Cosgriff and Toby McDonnel-Woods.

Previously the F’s Sam Khan, Toby McDonnell-Woods, Richard Woods and Zach McDonnell-Woods won 4-0 at Spilsby.
