Half a dozen Gold Tops from Boston and District AC took the opportunity to run in the first of this season’s Lincolnshire Cross Country League fixtures at Louth on Sunday.

In fine dry weather, the distance runners lined up on the start line at Louth Athletic Club’s London Road course, with its demanding climbs and varied terrain.

In the youngest age group event, Ryan Firth made a good debut at county league level, maintaining good rhythm throughout the 1.7k challenge to claim a very encouraging seventh position in the under 11 event.

In a very competitive race, completing the team were a strong-finishing Haddley Bedford in 31st and Matthew Lewis, who claimed an encouraging 39th position.

Two under 13 representatives started their Lincs League season well.

In the boys’ race over 3k, Hallam Bedford crossed the finish line at the end of the final uphill run in 15th place.

Over the same 3k course, Lucy Raywood showed determination in her race and - despite the testing hill climbs - finished in 18th position in the girls’ category.

In the senior, junior, veteran men’s challenging 9.7k event, James Rourk entered the finish funnel in 50th place.

On Saturday the second in the 2015-16 Junior Cross Country Challenges will be held at the B-Hive, Punchbowl Lane, Boston.

Entry is on the day and there are races for boys and girls in school years one and two, three and four, five and six and seven and eight, starting at 10am.
